If you’re a preschool educator or parent, these simple yoga and mindfulness ideas can help little ones practice calm bodies, listening skills and emotional awareness—without needing a long attention span.
Keep it short and playful
For ages 2–5, aim for 3–8 minutes at a time. Use animal poses, songs and stories to guide movement.
3 easy pose ideas
1) Cat/Cow: gentle spine movement with breathing. 2) Butterfly: seated stretch with ‘wing’ flaps. 3) Star: stand tall, reach wide, then hug yourself.
A 30-second calm-down
Try ‘smell the flower, blow the candle’ breathing: inhale through the nose, exhale slowly through the mouth. Repeat 3 times.
Make it a routine
Use the same opening and closing each time (hello song + one quiet breath). Predictability helps children feel safe and engaged.
